Businesses bolster Bath’s Britain in Bloom bid
The Business Exchange was one of several organisations sponsoring efforts from Bath Business Improvement District (BID) for this year’s Britain in Bloom.
Britain in Bloom combines 18 regional competitions to make up the biggest horticultural campaign in Europe. The aim is to improve and regenerate local environments through planting trees, shrubs and flowers, with associated landscaping, conservation and recycling projects.
Bath is being entered into three categories: South West in Bloom, Britain in Bloom and the BID category.
A planting day was held on Monday 10th June to fill the urns along the wall at Parade Gardens and the planters on Union Passage.
12 businesses contributed to the cost of the plants and 31 volunteers arrived to help plant them.
The Bath BID team and Bath in Bloom volunteers were joined by staff from the Apex Hotel, Stride Treglown, DKA Architects, Transform Communications, Bath BID Welcome Ambassadors and a team of seven from McDonalds.
Miriam Zaccarelli, Office and Projects Coordinator at Bath BID, said, “As the sun shone we planted up 26 stone urns with Geraniums, Tradescantia and ‘Red Head’ Fountain Grass, as well as tidying up and planting 12 planters in Union Passage.
“As soon as the planting was finished a sudden downpour of rain provided some additional watering to the newly planted flowers, and the sun came back out in time for the volunteers to be treated to a picnic in Parade Gardens with a generous contribution of burgers, chips and drinks from McDonalds.
“Thank you to everyone who took part!”
