Rengen House celebrates university team’s 20-year journey from heartbreak to victory

Bath-based Rengen House is celebrating the remarkable full-circle journey of its sponsored university rugby team, Team Bath, which triumphed recently in the final of the Men’s BUCS Super Rugby Milk Championship.

Two decades ago, Team Bath reached the BUCS Men’s Rugby Final at Twickenham under the leadership of then Head Coach Iestyn Lewis. On that occasion, they fell short against Loughborough University in a hard-fought contest that left a lasting impression on all involved.

Iestyn – the owner of Rengen House, a business hub in the centre of Bath offering business services, co-working facilities, and private hire event space — now stands firmly behind the team as a sponsor and witnessed its moment of redemption that was years in the making.

Under the coaching guidance of Aaron James, Team Bath Men’s Rugby has enjoyed an extraordinary season, culminating in a victory over Loughborough University and the capture of three major trophies.

This year’s BUCS final took place on Wednesday, 22nd April at Rodney Parade, the home of Newport Dragons, where representatives from Rengen House were treated to a warm welcome and hospitality. The University of Bath and Team Bath leadership were also out in force to support the team, led by Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley, highlighting the strength and unity behind the programme.

“This is a truly special moment,” said Iestyn Lewis. “To go from the disappointment of 20 years ago to sponsoring this group of exceptional players as they achieve what we once dreamed of, it’s incredibly meaningful.”

The victory was made even more significant by the presence of Johann van Graan, Head Coach of Bath Rugby, who joined in celebrating with the players on the pitch. His support underscores the strength of the partnership between Team Bath and Bath Rugby, a collaboration that continues to elevate performance across both student and senior levels.

“We’ve built something special here,” Iestyn added. “This partnership ensures we are developing some of the best rugby talent in the country. Seeing that come to life on the field is immensely rewarding.”

Rengen House now looks ahead to continuing the celebrations and strengthening its connection with the team and wider community. On 16th May, Rengen House will host players, coaches, and staff, while also opening its doors to supporters and the wider public for a special showcase event. Guests will have the opportunity to view the three pieces of silverware secured this season: the BUCS Super Rugby Champions title, the BUCS Super Rugby League Champions title, and the BUCS Super Rugby Challenge Cup.

The success of the men’s team signals a broader ambition for Team Bath and Rengen House as the focus now turns to replicating this achievement across other sports, including women’s rugby and netball.
