From Halloween costumes to Christmas gifts for loved ones, the holiday season is nearing and many may already have goods in their shopping carts waiting to be purchased.

With Halloween around the corner, Descartes had the creative idea to compile the top 10 delivery horror stories. Here are two about daring delivery drivers caught on camera:

“I have been a customer for a while but I will not be anymore. Big parcel was expected to be delivered on 09/09. I managed to view CCTV from the concierge on the building and it shows the delivery driver pretending to take a photo on the stairs leading to my flat and then walks away with the parcel. They’re getting so bold now. Thieves!!!”

“My parked vehicle was hit by one of the delivery vans and just drove away, thankfully someone witnessed the accident and let me know.”

There were a variety of other problems that customers faced, including wildly misplaced deliveries and goods being delivered already opened, some even used. Luckily, the article does not leave readers there, they offer useful advice so that other delivery companies avoid horrible delivery experiences.

When drivers behave inappropriately, it’s important to utilise tools like cameras and telematics that track the driver’s behaviour throughout their journey; after this is reviewed, managers can respond appropriately and ensure drivers comply with driver standards.

Moreover, the article emphasises the benefit of open communication between driver and customer, as well as efficient customer support that rapidly acts on feedback, leaving customers satisfied.

Trustpilot can also be used to look at stories that occurred in Bath. Food orders especially are examples in the area which led to delivery issues and not meeting the customer’s expectations. Here is what was found:

  1. “It definitely wasn’t chicken in my wrap that’s for sure.. not sure what it was but it was dark fatty ‘meat’. Loaded up with a tonne of tasteless tzatziki dip and half a tomato.”
  2. “I don’t get how hard it is to make a double cheeseburger…ordered 2 doubles when i opened them it was like they had been thrown across the room a few times, and they were both saturated in ketchup and not even slightly warm. I took them back to get exchanged, the guy working said he would sort it for me. After waiting ten-fifteen minutes I pressed the issue again, and it turns out he had forgotten. I finally got the new burgers and they were in almost as bad a shape as before and both still cold. How hard is it? Especially when someone has returned something, to just do a quality check? Shocking service.”

These stories could either give people a laugh or scare them off of online purchasing for a while. For businesses however, this serves as motivation for them to review their delivery practices and operations, meeting a crucial business goal: customer satisfaction.

If you’re a company that is keen on improving the delivery experience for customers, gaining their loyalty and satisfaction, Descartes’ expansive logistics platform offers industry-leading logistic and warehouse management solutions.
