As part of our Year in Review series, we caught up with Dee Gerrish, Charity Manager at We Get It, to reflect on the charity’s impact in 2025 and share what’s new for 2026.

2025 was a year of impact and innovation for We Get It. Research continues to reveal a stark reality: 58% of people living with cancer struggle more with mental than physical symptoms, and nearly half (47%) don’t know where to turn for help. In Bath & North East Somerset and West Wiltshire, that gap in support often leads to loneliness, anxiety, and isolation — especially when treatment ends and the steady contact with medical teams fades.

That’s where We Get It steps in. Our mission remains simple yet profound: no one should face cancer alone. Through peer support, open conversations, and shared experiences, we empower people to connect, heal, and thrive together. For many, We Get It isn’t just a support group — it’s a lifeline.

After the success of our Woodland Wellbeing events, one message rang loud and clear: our community wanted more opportunities to connect with nature. We listened. This year, we’re proud to launch Woodland Connection, a series of free sessions set in a magical private woodland in Box. Running through June, these gatherings invite anyone living with or beyond cancer to experience the restorative power of nature through gentle rituals, creative activities, and mindful connection.

Nature therapy is proven to reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood and resilience, ease isolation through shared experiences, support recovery and renewal, and encourage reflection through the rhythms of nature. But that’s just the beginning. We’re in talks with local charities about collaborative events that will expand our reach and impact — watch this space! Plus, 2026 will see the rollout of Corporate Wellbeing Support Sessions, helping Bath businesses better support employees living with or beyond cancer.

And of course, preparations are underway for Strength in Style 2026 — our much-loved fashion show with a difference. If you joined us at Bath Abbey last time, you’ll remember an unforgettable evening of courage and community. Expect even more inspiration this year.

In 2025 we welcomed Johanna Davies to our Board of Trustees, bringing 12+ years of marketing expertise and a passion for purpose-driven work. We’re also thrilled to have Lizzie Heffer dedicating more time to We Get It, continuing her incredible support from day one.
