WestSpring IT team completes half marathon in aid of disability charity
A team from Bristol-based WestSpring IT has raised £1,500 for local disability charity Gympanzees after taking on the Chippenham Half Marathon.
Colleagues Jake Honour, George Murphy, Jack Nicholas and Danny Cully took to the streets on Sunday 13th September, completing the challenge while raising funds and awareness for the charity which is the company’s chosen good cause for 2026 and 2027.
Based in Bristol, Gympanzees supports disabled children and young people from the area by providing opportunities for exercise, play and friendship, helping families access environments and activities designed around a wide range of needs. The charity is currently fundraising to create the UK’s first fully inclusive exercise, fitness and leisure centre.
The WestSpring IT runners committed to the half marathon when Danny Cully, who lives in Chippenham, encouraged them to join him.
Jack, who is Client Services Director at WestSpring, said, “I’m not a natural runner, so finishing my first half marathon felt like a real achievement. Supporting Gympanzees gave me the extra motivation to get over the finish line.”
Jake Honour, Systems and Process Manager, said, “The atmosphere on race day was incredible. Completing my first half marathon was something I never thought I’d do, and being able to do it for charity made it even more special. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who sponsored us.”
The Chippenham Half Marathon saw the four colleagues tackle the distance together after preparing for the event alongside their day-to-day roles at WestSpring IT which as its HQ in Bristol. They were cheered on by Mark Salen, Senior Client Experience Manager.
Mark said, “I was happy to cheer them on from the sidelines and to see their dedication of the last few months paying off for such a worthy cause.”
Their £1,500 fundraising total reflects the support they received from colleagues, clients, friends, families and other supporters who backed the challenge.
The team are undertaking other events to raise further funds including a charity golf day recently which raised over £4,000 and a bake sale coming up in October. Further fundraising is planned for 2027.
WestSpring IT provides IT services and support to businesses across the South West, working mainly with companies with 50-150 users, headquartered within around 90 minutes of Bristol.
The team currently have clients in sectors including defence, leisure, recruitment, manufacturing, food & beverage and hospitality.
