Bath-based charity St John’s Foundation has been nominated for a national award with its short film I’ve Still Got It, a heartwarming project showcasing the joy and individuality of older adults.

As one of the UK’s oldest charities, St John’s Foundation has been serving Bath and the surrounding area for over 850 years. At the heart of its work is an almshouse community, providing housing for older adults in need, as well as outreach services that help older adults in Bath and North East Somerset live independently for longer.

Created by Woven Films and featuring the charity’s almshouse residents, the film shows residents taking part in activities they love, demonstrating the potential later life can hold, and highlighting that getting older does not always mean slowing down. The project aims to challenge stereotypes and provide an authentic, positive perspective on later life.

Following an enthusiastic response online, I’ve Still Got It has now been entered into the Smiley Charity Film Awards. To reach the judges’ shortlist, the charity needs public votes and is calling on the local community to support the film.

Catharine Brown, CEO at St John’s Foundation, said, “We’re thrilled with the response to the film so far. Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and this project shows the incredible energy and thirst for new skills and knowledge that continue throughout later life.”

A person sits on a picnic bench in an allotment or community garden. They are wearing a brown fleece, red neck scarf and green trousers. Gardening tools, freshly picked vegetables and small pots are placed on the bench and beside a wheelbarrow nearby. In the background are greenhouses, raised beds and trees under a clear sky. The scene is a video still from a St John’s Foundation project.
