Bath College is investing in the region’s future with the expansion and refurbishment of workshops and facilities at Somer Valley Campus in Radstock.

Brand new workshops are being built to house the college’s new state-of-the-art engineering suite, which will be open for business in September 2023.

The Somer Valley Construction Centre will have upgrades made to many workshops, including the installation of two mezzanine floors to provide additional teaching space for electrical and multi-skills students. It will also now house the state-of-the-art BIM (Building Information Modelling) and Fulmax Suite.

Investment is also being made into additional teaching spaces and the refurbishment of the dedicated motor vehicle workshop, creating contemporary teaching spaces, supported by digital technology.

These projects will benefit all students spanning level’s 1- 5, along with apprentices of all ages.

This funding investment will enable Bath College to continue to grow its provision and meet regional and national industry skill requirements around sustainable energy and new construction technology and techniques.

The work has been carried out by various contractors who are local to Somerset and Bristol including M&B Building, Dan Matthews Electrical, Greenstock Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, TH White Fire and Security, Greenstock Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. All of these contractors work closely with the college’s Estates Team to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to the required standard.

Emma Channon, Head of Estates & Facilities, said, “The many projects across our Somer Valley Campus have been a testament to teams and contractors working in partnership and collaborating to create some great new learning zones. Within a very short time scale we have watched areas transformed from opening up rooms to create new large workshops to additional workshops created by the installation of mezzanines. The team effort of everyone involved has enabled this work to take place, with additional spaces and digital investment ongoing.”
