As concerns around youth mental health and smartphone dependency continue to grow, Bath-based social enterprise The Digital Detox Club is inviting families to step away from screens and rediscover real connection at its latest live event, Unplug to Reconnect.

The event is due to take place on Saturday 18th October from 2-6pm at Kingswood School in Bath.

Designed for parents and young people aged 10–18, the event will explore the emotional and social impact of smartphone use and will offer inspiring, practical ways to reclaim balance, wellbeing and human connection in an “always-on” world.

A Two-Part Event: From Awareness to Action

Part 1: The Problem
The day begins by shining a light on the hidden costs of constant connectivity, featuring talks, performances and lived experiences on topics such as adolescent resilience, the big tech agenda, and the link between social media and mental health.

Speakers include Dr Susie Davies (Papaya Parents), Shona Beats (former COO of Headspace), and a short film from Boys in Mind exploring how social media can feed isolation and anxiety.

Part 2: The Solution
The second half focuses on optimism and healing — exploring the many ways we can reconnect offline through creativity, nature, movement and community.
Highlights include performances and talks from:

  • Conor Warren (Spark UK) on reclaiming digital wellbeing
  • Mark De’Lisser (Poet) on presence and spoken word as therapy
  • Lorna Bode (Artist) on the power of art for resilience
  • Tash Filer (National Trust Ambassador) on the healing force of nature
  • Lauren Helyar (Musician) performing live and sharing her story

The event concludes with a hands-on “offline discovery session” offering taster workshops in clay, crafts, movement, fitness, yoga and art – hosted by local partners including Bath Blockprint Company, Pause for Creativity, Mighty Girls, Baskervilles Gymnastics, and Heart Flow Bath.

Offline by Design

All attendees will be asked to place smartphones in secure pouches upon arrival, ensuring a fully screen-free afternoon designed for genuine presence and connection.
