The Next Generation: a new space for young professionals to connect and collaborate
A new networking initiative is launching this summer with a clear aim, to create something that genuinely works for the next generation in business.
The Next Generation, a partnership between The Business Exchange and Goughs Solicitors, is aimed at young entrepreneurs and professionals across Bath & Somerset, Swindon & Wiltshire. It comes from a shared recognition that much of the current networking offer no longer reflects how younger people want to build relationships.
For many established business leaders, their early careers were shaped by young professional groups. These were the spaces where friendships formed, opportunities emerged and trusted networks were built.
Today, that experience is harder to find.
Expectations have shifted. Time is tighter. Many younger professionals aren’t drawn to rigid formats or overly structured events. They’re less interested in pitching themselves in a room and more interested in meeting people naturally, in settings that feel relaxed and worthwhile.
Megan Solomon, Solicitor at Goughs, said, “I’m really excited to see Goughs working alongside The Business Exchange on something that feels genuinely different for younger professionals. Networking can sometimes feel quite formal or intimidating when you’re starting out in your career, so creating a space that’s more relaxed, welcoming and focused on real connections is really important. Having qualified as a solicitor less than a year ago, I know how valuable it is to meet people who are at a similar stage, share experiences and build relationships naturally. I’m looking forward to seeing The Next Generation bring together ambitious people from across the region in a way that feels friendly, supportive and enjoyable.”
A more relaxed way to connect
Rather than following a traditional networking format, the focus is on creating an environment where conversations happen more organically.
There is no set agenda and no pressure to ‘work the room’. Just a chance to spend time with like-minded people, share ideas and build relationships over time.
It is also about creating something with longevity, a network that supports people as they grow in their careers and helps foster connections across the region.
Launching at Bath Boules

This year also marks the first time Bath Business Improvement District (BID) has taken over the running of the event. The four-day summer boules festival is one of Bath’s most loved, bringing together businesses, charities, community groups and friends for a lively mix of friendly competition and serious fun.
The first event will take place on Thursday 2nd July from 6pm to 8pm, following the opening day of Bath Boules in Queen Square.
Bath Boules is a well-established part of the local business calendar, offering a relaxed outdoor setting that naturally brings people together. Guests are invited to come along after a day’s play, or to stop by for a drink with like-minded people after work.
