270 new homes approved for Stratton-On-The-Fosse
Barratt Homes Bristol and Barratt David Wilson Homes South West have released details of a new housing development in the village of Stratton-On-The-Fosse.
The Somer Meadows development on Fosse Way, situated between Midsomer Norton and Shepton Mallet, will include 270 two, three and four bedroom properties, available to reserve in early 2025. 91 affordable homes with a mixture of rent and shared ownership are included within the total.
The housebuilders will pay £400,000 into the community via a Section 106 legal agreement, with contributions towards education and healthcare.
Provisions for bat bricks, swift, bird and bat boxes, as well as three hectares of open green space are included in the plans. The development will also retain existing hedgerows and plant 280 new trees with over 5,000 mixed species shrubs to enhance biodiversity.
Andrea Pilgrim, Sales Director for Barratt Homes Bristol, said, “We are delighted to be given the green light by Bath and North East Somerset Council to deliver new high-quality and energy-efficient homes to Somerset. We have a long-standing reputation in the area for building thriving new communities and we are excited to be putting shovel in the ground later this year.
“Somer Meadows has been designed to comply with the new Part L regulations which places sustainability at the heart of these new homes. We’ll use a fabric first approach and use low carbon construction techniques throughout the build process, whilst also installing solar panels and electric car charging points to every home.
Louise Ware, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West added, “This development is perfectly located next to the bustling town of Midsomer Norton and is just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Mendip Hills and Somerset countryside. We’ve learned from our successes at nearby developments and carefully planned Somer Meadows to include a mix of properties to suit a range of buyers with varying budgets and requirements to help address the ongoing need for new homes in Somerset.”
