The South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit (SWRCCU) are warning organisations to stay alert to increased cyber attacks related to the Coronavirus outbreak. Phil Ellis from the South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit said, “As part of managing the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, many organisations will be encouraging more of their staff to work from home. This presents new cyber security challenges.

“Cyber criminals are also preying on fears of the coronavirus and sending ‘phishing’ emails that try and trick users into clicking on a link to a bad website (which could download malware onto their computer or steal passwords).”

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has published advice for UK companies to reduce the impact of these attacks. You can find the guidance on the NCSC website at www.ncsc.gov.uk/guidance/home-working

If you have experienced cyber crime, you need to report the incident to Action Fraud, website at www.actionfraud.police.uk

To stay updated on cyber threats, you can also follow the SWRCCU on Twitter and LinkedIn.
