The wait was finally over for fans this Saturday (14th October) as Bath Rugby took on Newcastle Falcons in the first round of the 2023/24 Gallagher Premiership, a game which saw the club returning to The Rec for the first time since 2015.

Opening their Premiership Rugby campaign with a 34-26 win, Bath secured a four-try bonus point victory over the Falcons. Tickets started from £5 for children and £10 for adults.

With expectations high after Scotland stars, Finn Russell and Cameron Redpath, touched down in Somerset last week, the Blue, Black and White took on Newcastle Falcons who were looking for revenge after last season’s New Year’s Eve clash which saw victory for Bath Rugby in front of a sold-out crowd. Fans watched as new signing, Thomas ‘The Tank’ du Toit, made his first appearance in the topflight English competition.

Alongside the Gallagher Premiership making its return to The Rec this weekend; the Fan Village also returned with local band, The Hammervilles, taking to the stage in a festival-style setup to perform their first ever live set at the venue.

The fan favourite Thatchers Apples were also on hand to provide the half-time entertainment in the form of a race between two enormous apples. Additionally, a Happy Hour offer was available on selected drinks for the first hour after the gates opened, there were food stalls aplenty and Max the Mascot was also doing the rounds for selfie opportunities.

Tarquin McDonald, Chief Executive Officer at Bath Rugby, said, “We’re excited to be back at The Rec for the start of a new Premiership Rugby season and look forward to welcoming fans old and new to what is set to be a thrilling campaign.

“With the arrival of world-class talent, European rugby on the horizon, and the submission of our stadium redevelopment plans for The Rec, there is a genuine sense of excitement around the club for what lies ahead. We can’t wait to get started.”
